Some Thoughts After Valentine’s Day
The chocolate is eaten (at least in my house it is), the red roses rest in a pretty vase, the Valentine’s Day festival of love is over, until next year…and love is…well, lovely.
And while I was eating that last piece of chocolate, I got to thinking about extending love, in general.
I got to thinking about the people out there who didn’t get anything, who don’t exist in my world.
That led me to what a little love would cost me.
Here was my thinking: If I stopped at my cash machine, maybe every few weeks, and withdrew what I could afford that week, in fives,
and gave some money to the person sleeping on a park bench, or sitting on a street corner, head down,
or pulling a shopping cart stuffed with life’s belongings.
Or gave a helping hand to that musician deep in the playing his heart out, that if you stopped to listen might change your day.
Am I a bleeding heart? You bet I am.
So I’m just asking, as a symbol of Valentine’s Day, what if we all let our hearts bleed a little, together.
