Just Folks. Three Cups of Tea.
Three Cups of Tea…the idea for this sketch was partly inspired by the book of the same name, written by Greg Mortenson. Whether or not it’s a true story remains controversial but I do know this… sipping tea allows for pause if you permit yourself.
I used to be a coffee drinker and to this day I still love the aroma of good, strong, brewing coffee. However, since becoming a tea drinker, I’ve found that tea inspires a different kind of “break,” one that’s more calming. Bryan and I relish our tea drinking ritual three times a day. In the morning for breakfast we share a small pot, in the afternoon around 3 p.m. we drink from our thermos, then the third cup is at night, which is always herbal. I also find that I prefer different cups for different times a day. In the morning I prefer drinking from a handmade mug because it feels more intimate, and I have a lot of those from my clay making days! In the afternoon, a commercial one is fine (if I’m home) because it’s more durable and reliable as I’m moving through my day. At night I like a larger cup, one that I can hold with 2 hands, because it’s comforting. Three Cups of Tea is a sketch drawn from my handmade cup collection. There are stories with each of them, stories which hold a personal history of evolution!
