Happy New Year from Hummingbird!
Turning the Proverbial Page
Following the Hummingbird tradition of turning the page to the New Year with something inspirational...something that will give us hope and confidence that "it will all be OK" in 2025, I've been searching for that special quote or piece of poetry or song.
Finally, the lightbulb went off. Many times in 2024, I found myself saying to a person facing adversity, "Everything will be alright." In my head I was hearing the Bob Marley lyric we all know so well--"every little thing gonna be alright"...
And so today, on New Year's Eve, here is my message to "you-ou-ou:"
Rise up this morning, smiled with the rising sun
Three little birds pitch by my doorstep
Singing sweet songs of melodies pure and true
Saying, "This is my message to you-ou-ou"
Singing, "Don't worry about a thing
'Cause every little thing gonna be alright"
Singing, "Don't worry about a thing" (Don't worry)
"‘Cause every little thing gonna be alright"
On a humorous note, this caused a bit of commotion over at HB. We needed to decide whether to present the original Three Little Birds, released in 1977 by Bob Marley and the Wailers on the album Exodus, or this amazing cover by Kacey Musgraves, recorded in 2024, in conjunction with the documentary about Marley, One Love, with the blessing of his family.
Here they both are for you to decide. Please listen—it might just put you in the right spirit to turn the proverbial page.

And then, for the cover by Kacey Musgraves, which by her own admission, is considerably more soulful, and well, the adversity just sits heavier and feels more "scary." If you are having great anxiety about facing 2025, this one might feel more real. Click here.
Regardless, and acknowledging all the challenges, horror, war, shootings, burnings, and hate we witnessed in 2024, listen to one or both of these versions. While I do not have a crystal ball, I do forecast that no matter what, Marley got it right, "every little thing gonna be alright."
