TUNING OUT
My daughter, who will defy any germ that dares get in her way, was sick enough to head to Urgent Care.
She left my 14 year old granddaughter with me, a joy for me, possibly not total glee for her.Gram's rule: NO phones turned on.
We could chat, we could tell stories, she could tell me about school (imagine that), watch a movie, we could play word games, why - we could even (gasp) read! After a few looks, (the kind only a 14 year old can give), we settled in. And I think we had a good time (difficult to know with teenagers).
And the clincher? She never, not even once, begged to use her phone. Glory be!
