Summertime Nostalgia

And I can remember the fourth of July…”
I've always loved this song by Creedence Clearwater Revival. I wasn't born on the Bayou, but I could feel the humid heat in these lyrics wrapped in the gritty guitar sound and vocals —so vividly that it conjures up my childhood Independence Day memories.
I recall those early days as a child running through the sprinkler as our family collie Mactavish stood by barking. We lived in a wooded area with a right-of-way to a creek which felt like the song. While my father grilled hamburgers, we could smell the barbecue and looked forward to watching the fireworks later that night with other families we knew in Westhampton. Running bare felt like pure freedom— no hang-ups, no rules and endless summer days. We've all been there, haven't we? Happy Independence Day Everyone!
