Armin & Judy
Review and Commentary. You must try this warm, authentic, delicious restaurant!
If you’ve driven on Montauk Highway through Bridgehampton over recent years, I’m sure you’ve noticed the sign that reads, “I Baguette You,” out near the road in front of a restaurant with its sign right there too, Armin & Judy. What does that mean?— I would always ask the person I was with, or myself, but then forget to follow up to find out!
This summer, when the Hampton Classic was in town, I was meeting a friend and checking out some choices for lunch, and I came upon Armin & Judy in my online search. Their “daytime” menu looked perfect as we were meeting for an early lunch— so we met there, and it was— the perfect place to meet. Relaxed, with a European bistro feel, and delicious. I had my first Crispy Chicken Sandwich (with fries) and my friend had an omelette (with salad). Both were great. I brought half my sandwich home (and not quite half the fries!) and my husband also gave the sandwich a rave review, the chicken was still crispy!
When I was leaving, I couldn’t help but notice— the chickens, some farmy things, and what appeared to be a bakery out back. Of course I had to poke my head in the bakery, and it was a full out boulangerie! Thus the sign (I Baguette You)! The breads were amazing, and the pastries, “magnifique!” I couldn’t leave without a “cardamom” bun, and a pain au chocolate to try for breakfast the following day. Both were authentic and great.
Fast forward to last week when we were bringing brunch to our friends over on the North Fork. We were visiting with two of our “foodie” HB contributors. We knew we had to get the Crispy Chicken again. All agreed that the crispiness of the coating, juiciness of the chicken, the brioche roll, and a spicy & sweet slaw on it, all combined, were amazing. Other brunch/lunch things we tried were the Caviar Sandwich, open faced Danish bread, egg salad, and a spoonful of caviar on top, divine; and the Smoked Salmon Toast, with capers, onion, creme fraiche, dill, and chopped egg, was also delicious. We stopped in the bakery, naturally we needed to bring some dessert! Cardamom buns, an almond croissant, and a pain au chocolate were among the pastries we shared. One was better than the next. The almond croissant was a standout among any I’ve ever had and would definitely qualify for a best of the best.
This isn’t a “full” restaurant review because we have yet to return for dinner, but we are planning to! Their prix fixe sounds great and I can’t wait to try it. The food is fantastic and the ambiance is warm, friendly, and charming. Once we return, we’ll update the review. In the meanwhile, you should definitely try Armin & Judy! Located at 1970 Montauk Highway, just west of Bridgehampton Commons.
