FEATURED REVIEW

The Guest List

  Lucy Foley

The Guest List is a mystery/thriller about a group of people who travel to an isolated island for a “glamorous” wedding getaway. It takes place off the Irish Coast. The many themes of this book are deftly woven through the backstories of the guests which are rich in secrets and deception. You might find that you even detest some of the guests, yet Foley has done a nice job of developing the characters, as you realize that some carry heavy burdens with them.

While the plot might appear a bit helter skelter, in the end you find your way. Through the skillful use of multiple narrators, Foley provides clues that allow the reader to untangle the “whodunnit” story, which by the end finds one guest dead and another having committed the murder. The book is a page turner with much to uncover as each narrator develops their own point of view about who and what are involved in this entanglement.

So many books, so little time. Right, right - we’ve all heard it many times. Hummingbird's new BOOK SHORTS will present book reviews you can read in a minute and capture the essence of the story, thumbnail reviews that hopefully will entice you into your next read. I read constantly. My tastes vary, so I’ll review books that I love, not necessarily current books. Other HB contributors will review books that follow their interests, both newly published and past. All in all, we’ll review books we think are captivating, compelling, unputdownable. If you’re looking for a good book to take to the beach, make that long commute shorter, or curl up with, hopefully our reviews will help you find it. Lynda Bernard
