Just Folks. Bell's Seasoning
Bell’s Seasoning. Something Traditional.
To me, there was something comforting about noticing Bell's Seasoning at the grocery store recently. As I read "over 150 years of tradition" on the box, not only did this arouse my taste buds and sense of smell, it made me think about the comfort of sharing good food, family, and traditions. These are the things that provide a sense of place and groundedness that's so important, especially now during this post election time.
I guess that's why my husband and I started making plans earlier. For starters, we ordered three pies as soon as I saw the holiday menu posted online from our favorite farm stand. We'll be traveling up to MA to visit family and friends and as of last month we had secured our ferry reservation early. We can't wait! I'm feeling less stressed already.
I can envision our routine. While the bird is in the oven, we'll probably watch the parade and of course the legendary Dog Show immediately following. The house will be smelling great, the wood stove will be burning, and we'll be laughing, sharing our odd family humor while taking turns in the kitchen. The covered casseroles will begin their coordinated shifts in and out of the oven to warm, once the turkey has been brought out and blanketed with foil to rest. Who makes the best gravy anyway? With a side of pumpkin pie, predictability is calming and reassuring, and it's the thing I'm craving for most this year.
Happy Thanksgiving to All of our readers!
