Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls + A Note Re: The Pillsbury Doughboy

Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls + A Note Re: The Pillsbury Doughboy

On one of the last Sundays in April last year, it was so cold and rainy, and we needed a little something “special” to prop us up. So, while my husband was out running an errand, I preheated the oven and added Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls to the breakfast menu. Have you ever had them? The original that is… the one that you pop the sealed cylindrical container by hitting it on the counter… the ones that have the icing container at the bottom below the refrigerated dough/rolls, that you spread on with a knife when the rolls come out of the oven? While they are so not fancy, it just amazes me that 4 generations of my family view them as a special Sunday breakfast treat. I recall my Mom making them for us when we were children, and I made them for our daughter, and now she bakes them for her children who love them too and actually call them “special breakfast.”

That morning, we were still in our temporary apartment over at the Watchcase, and one of the managers brought us a package that had been delivered. When we opened our door he said, it smells so good in here!! So of course we sent him off with a plate of Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls that we were having with coffee.

And in thanks, he emailed me the following, posted by Torbert Funeral Chapels. I hope you find it as amusing as I did.

Obituary

The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday in Minneapolis of a yeast infection and traumatic complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71. Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The gravesite was piled high with flours. Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Born and bread in Minnesota, Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with Turnovers. He was not regarded as a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, he still was a crusty old man and served as a positive roll model for millions. Doughboy is survived by his wife, Play Dough, three children: John Dough, Jane Dough and Dosey Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart. The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 min. If you smiled while reading this, please rise to the occasion and pass it on to someone having a crumby day and kneading a lift.
